Borrelli + Partners Donated 3,700 Pounds of Food for CANstruction 2012! Fri, Nov 9, 2012

On Sunday, October 29th , we participated in the 2012 Canstruction® Orlando Event for our third straight year at the Fashion Square Mall; an event which helps to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida.   Our team leader, James Moore, AIA, NCARB did a fantastic job spearheading this important event for our Canstruction team.

Our structure won a national recognized Canstruction Award of “Best Meal”, which signifies food products that are well-balanced and nutritious  in protein and vitamins (i.e. tuna fish, peas, coconut milk, diced pears and applesauce).

The 2012 theme this year was “Arftful Canception” as Canstruction®-Orlando partnered up with the Orlando Museum of Art to generate unlimited creativity, spirit and design.  This year, we constructed a modernized sculptural garden based on their artistic interpretation as the title was named “Cantemplative Garden”.  “Cantemplative Garden” is a twist to a modern sculpture gallery, with a sweeping and rising, then falling, double wythe wall that divides the garden space into nested areas for two sculptural components, for the viewer to gaze upon and contemplate.  The wind-like wall both reveals and shrouds the sculptural elements as the participant promenades through and around the park-like setting.  The sculptural pieces are designed both to captivate individuality and to share their presence in a social setting, as an overall composite form.

The design is conceived with the intent to link the food security and the awareness that this security is not a reality yet for all.  The solution is just a single can of food away! In conjunction with our sponsorship donations, our firm helped raise a total of $6,170 and supplied approximately 3,700 non-perishable canned food items to the Second Harvest Food Bank.  The event raised more than 31,000 pounds of food for those in need and will help the food bank prepare 26,158 meals.

We look forward to next year’s event!
