FAU Recreation and Fitness Center

The new Florida Atlantic University Recreation Center, positioned along the northern corridor of campus, has become an important social hub as the University continues to grow. The facility, which was completed in three phases, includes fitness, gymnasium, administration and support spaces centered around a main, clerestoried lobby.

The new center also houses an outdoor pool. The northern façade of the building is composed of a glass wall which acts as a billboard showcasing to the campus the recreation center’s activities. The building can be accessed off of a new plaza, leading pedestrians directly from the campus core into the building. The new plaza, central gathering lobby and prominently displayed fitness activity all serve to enhance campus life by attracting the entire University community to utilize the facility for personal wellness and academic productivity.

The new facility includes a large fitness space that accommodates cardio equipment and a separate area for strength training; a two-court, multi-purpose gymnasium for basketball, volleyball and badminton; a MAC gym with built-in soccer goals; two multi-purpose fitness studios for classes; a Mind and Body studio; a main lobby including a control desk and food concession; a student lounge; locker room space; an office suite with conference room, offices and departmental reception area; and an equipment checkout suite with laundry facilities; and an outdoor pool, pool terrace, life guard office and supporting pool facilities.
