Intergenerational Recreation Center Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Thu, Aug 25, 2016

August 17, 2016, Borrelli + Partners attended the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Indian River County Intergenerational Recreation Center (IRC), marking the grand opening of the facility.

B+P is proud to have been the leader of the design team for this Intergenerational Recreation facility. The 40,600 SF building included a 16,500 SF gymnasium and a 24,100 SF multi-purpose building designed to promote intergenerational programs and activities. Intergenerational programs are social vehicles that bring people together from different generations in mutually beneficial planned activities. The building is designed to accommodate a variety of program goals. Through intergenerational programs, people of all ages share their knowledge, talents and resources, supporting each other in relationships that benefit both the individuals and the overall community.

The facility also allows the County Recreation Division to host programs and events that were previously unavailable such as weddings and civic events in an elegantly finished, divisible ball-room. Basketball, volleyball, gymnastics, martial arts, performing arts, large seminars, gaming tournaments, virtual recreation, and celebratory events can be accommodated in the separate yet connected MAC (Multi-Activity Court) Gym.

The IRC’s design is iconic and welcoming, becoming the community jewel of the South Park Recreation Area of Indian River County.
