This project encompassed the expansion and renovations for the nationally recognized School of Communication at the University of Miami’s Main Campus in Coral Gables. Initially developed in preliminary designs as an “addition” to the cable television studio, the expanded program currently encompasses a 3 and 4 story structure that envelops the existing 1960’s vintage cable television building.
This creative and unique project provided administrative offices, 40 faculty offices, 5 classrooms, student reading/computing/viewing rooms, a photo lab, a library and a student commons area. It also included technologically advanced facilities such as 16mm flatbed studios, an animation studio, sound mix theaters, a motion picture/broadcasting stage, two story set storage facilities, writing labs, graphics labs, and a print journalism bureau. The new facility consolidates the school’s five programs under one roof and allowed the school to relinquish previous space allocated elsewhere in the campus, some in World War II vintage wooden structures.
