Borrelli + Partners Architects take on the 2015 Canstruction Competition! Wed, Oct 14, 2015

Canstruction 2015What is Canstruction you may ask? It’s an annual food drive competition where teams build structures based on a theme provided by the Second Harvest Food Bank.  Each structure is on display for a week, and after judges choose a winner, all of the cans are donated to local food banks. This year, the theme was “Hunger Heroes” and Borrelli + Partners Architects teamed with The Central Florida Zoo to create “Living with bears, not hunger.” The structure was an 8′ x 8′ visual of a bear rummaging through an overturned trash can and a backdrop of a house, to symbolize locals coexisting with hungry black bears of Central Florida.

With the help of our sponsors, we were able to raise $7,030.00 to fund the exhibit that took a whopping total of 5,160 cans to build! We were also presented the “Local Honorable Mention” trophy at the award banquet, where Central Florida Zoo volunteers  greeted attendees with animals from the zoo.
