Orianne Center for Indigo Conservation Featured on PBS Thu, Nov 12, 2015
Borrelli + Partners had the pleasure of teaming up with Orianne Society to design The Orianne Center for Indigo Conservation. The center, located in Eustis, Florida, consists of a Quarantine Building and a Herpetarium Building. The facility was built as a safe haven for the Indigo snakes that have declined in population over the past years. We wanted to stay “green” with our design by incorporating rainwater harvesting from roofs with above-grade cisterns, day lighting, and the use of environmentally sensitive materials. The two buildings serve as spaces to do research, clean, breed and house numbers of snakes.
Recently, the center was featured in the documentary “Secrets of the Longleaf Pine.” The episode explains Southeastern United States Longleaf Pine ecosystem, plants and animals.
