Progress Continues on the Future Highlander Park Aquatic Center
City of Dunedin Mayor Julie Bujalski, City officials, and local community are excited and eager to press forward with the Highlander Park Aquatic Center.
The new Highlander Park Aquatic Center will feature an activity pool and slides, competition pool with two diving boards, a picnic area, the Kiwanis Spray Ground, and a therapy pool. The 8,870 SF main building will include an administration area, concession area with seating, restrooms, locker area, support spaces, a multi-purpose room, and more. The project is expected to be completed in August 2026.
Commissioner Moe Freaney said Dunedin is one of the oldest communities in Pinellas County and has a lot of homes with no swimming pools. The city operates one pool, and it ought to be special, she said. "It's a hole in the ground right now, and it's been that way for a long time. We have a lot of responsibility in teaching kids to swim," Freaney said. "There's a lot of intergenerational aspects to this whole design."
