Summary
As part of a Design/Build team, B+P provided architectural design services through construction administration for Ocala International Airport’s new 18,060 SF General Aviation Terminal Building. With a rising metropolitan population that is likely to surpass half a million people in the next 20 years and is home to the World Equestrian Center, the Ocala International Airport is envisioned to serve as a major component of the City’s economic growth. The goal of the project is to provide the City a building for various uses including: airport administration, airport fixed base operations, restaurant, multiple car rental business, meeting rooms, rental space for commercial aeronautical business and possible future expansion to facilitate US Customs Service. The new terminal building serves as a first-class community and industry gateway to the City of Ocala, the national and international equine industry, and the award-winning horse farms that call Ocala home.
The architectural and engineering work was developed using the 30% Design Criteria Package plus any updates since the release of the RFP by the City of Ocala. The project included the demolition of the existing terminal facility and vehicle arrival area. The project included the realignment of entry roads, services areas, and passenger vehicle drop off areas. A new 45-car parking area, rental car return processing area, and a washing/service area were added to the scope of services.
