Summary
Borrelli + Partners (B+P) was commissioned by the University of Central Florida (UCF) to design the new $1.2 million, 8,700 square foot Recreation and Wellness Center located on the north end of the UCF campus.
This project consists of a remote recreation center to be designed and constructed at the North end of the UCF campus, in the Knights Plaza opposite the UCF Arena, and the Fairwinds Alumni Center, at the intersection of West Plaza Drive and Gemini Boulevard. It now occupies the vacant existing anchor retail location, serving as a gateway to both the UCF Memory Mall campus corridor and the student housing towers in that area.
B+P was responsible for the programming and planning services which emphasized cardio fitness with an over 4,000 square foot exercise area and a distinct 1,500 square foot “Mind & Body” fitness studio for Yoga, Pilates and TRX training studio classes. B+P utilized the existing UCF Recreation & Wellness Center color and material palate brand established at the recently completed Recreation and Wellness Center expansion project, to provide a degree of continuity between the facilities for the architectural and interiors fit out as the design progresses through construction and into construction administration.
Unique and central to the Recreation & Wellness Center at Knights Plaza’s mission of “Mind & Body” is the inclusion of a pair of private, individual user meditation studios, which serves the student body by providing a quite space, with limited distractions, to gather one’s thoughts, relax in a calming environment and find a measure of inner peace from the anxieties and stresses that often accompany student collegiate life.
